KUCHING: Sarawak expects more foreign tourist arrivals when AirAsia launches its direct flight between Penang and Kuching.
State Assistant Minister Hamden Ahmad said AirAsia would operate four flights a week between the two destinations from mid-February.
“As Penang is a hub where foreign tourists visit, we hope to attract them to extend their stay in the state capital,” he told reporters after leading a welcome team for passengers arriving at the Kuching International Airport here yesterday.
Passengers on AirAsia flight from Johor Baru and Malaysia Airlines flight from Kuala Lumpur, who arrived at 8.15am and 10.20am respectively, had a pleasant surprise as they were garlanded with Sarawak’s beads and presented with flowers and Sarawak Tourism Board’s (STB) calendar of events for Visit Malaysia Year 2007.
