Kota Kinabalu: More people are visiting the museum and other related facilities throughout the State - thanks to various programmes organised by the Sabah Museum Department.
Sabah Museum Director Datuk Joseph Pounis Guntavid said last year a total of 426,882 visitors visited the museum, compared to 257,825 in 2006.
He was speaking at the launching of Crafts Exotica 2008-cum-World Museum Day 2008 by Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment Datuk Masidi Manjun at the museum's Kampung Warisan site.
"We are registering more people visiting the Crafts Exotica programme since it started in 2003," he said. He said only 5,954 people attended the event in 2003 but it increased to 11,895 last year.
Crafts Exotica was mooted to revive as well as ensure continuity of Sabah's crafts heritage that is facing extinction.
