PENAMPANG: The Tourism, Culture and Environment Ministry will not risk cutting down its expenditure on promoting Sabah to the world. Its minister, Datuk Masidi Manjun said in his speech at the ministry’s Hari Raya Aidilfitri cum Jasamu DiKenang held at the Sabah Cultural Centre yesterday that he believed they should continue to aggressively promote the state despite the looming global financial crisis.
“I don’t believe in cutting costs when it comes to tourism promotion. It is business as usual. My view is that, irrespective of whether the times are good or bad, people will still travel.
“We just need to look for new market segments,” he said optimistically. He added that Sabah was still a new destination in the global tourism industry. Nevertheless, tourism players in the state will be organising a special meeting to discuss strategies on how to counter the financial problems. “We need to sit down and look at the figures and external factors that might affect us. We need to come up with strategies to help us face this problem,” he said.
