KUCHING: The state enjoyed a drastic increase in tourist arrivals for the first quarter of this year compared to the same period last year.“We are expecting more tourist arrivals throughout this year as compared to last year,” said Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) marketing director Benedict Jimbau.
He said the first quarter of 2010 recorded an increase of 9,027 tourist arrivals as compared to 2009 over the same period of time.
“The year 2009 recorded a total of 999,005 tourist arrivals. We are expecting a higher number of tourist arrivals for 2010.
“The first quarter sees a drastic increase because a lot of activities are being held during this time such as Pesta Benak, Ranjang River Regatta, Pesta Kaul Mukah, Miri International Jazz Festival, and Hong Sam Si Temple Parade.
