Mount Santubong comes alive with music festival

A SPECTRUM of lights and captivating sounds of music will reveberate Mount Santubong for the next three days with the start of the Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) 2010 today.

Twenty talented bands from all over the world, including two from Sarawak will entertain thousands from all walks of life.

Project director Benedict Jimbau was confident that this year’s event would be as good as the previous ones.

Last year alone, the festival’s media value was estimated atRM10.4mil and the spin-off revenue was about RM15.5mil, he told a media briefing at Santubong near Kuching yesterday.

He said the event not only promoted world music and talents but also generated a lot of revenue for the people of Sarawak.

Festival consultant Randy Raine-Reusch said among the bands to watch out are Farafina from Burkino Faso and Musafir Gypsies from Rajasthan, India. Musafir Gypsies are recognised for its appearance in the cult classic film Latcho Drom.
