The Sarawak Travel Fair was launched yesterday by the guest of honour, Dato' Rashid Khan, CEO of Sarawak Tourism Board, and attended by Dato' Abdullah Sani Omar, High Commissioner of Malaysia, and other guests. The fair, jointly organised by the Sarawak Tourism Board and the Tourism Malaysia (Brunei branch), is from April 1-3.
Dato' Rashid Khan said Sarawak offers value-for-money attractions, with fun activities for the family, as well as entertainment and a shopping experience for the avid and casual shopper.
He added that the state is also promoting its medical and educational facilities which would be beneficial to Bruneians for the proximity and standard of these establishments. The fair is also an opportunity for the Board to expand its collaboration with the tourism industry in Brunei and to strengthened the relationships with Tourism Malaysia and other industry partners such as Royal Brunei Airlines and Malaysia Airlines.
The audience was also entertained by the Ngajat performance of Iban dancers to welcome visitors to longhouses.
Several stalls dotted the ground floor of the Times Square Mall, showcasing some of Sarawak's best attractions. Sarawak is teeming with the diverse wealth of ethnicity that permeates the daily life of the Land of the Hornbills.
For wildlife lovers, Sarawak offers the experience of seeing animals in their natural surroundings. The largest state in Malaysia and home to the oldest rainforest in the world, Sarawak has "must visit" attractions such as the Mulu Caves and the Niah Caves, both exceptional adventures in their own right.
For those interested in a different brand of music, discounted tickets for the Borneo Jazz Festival can be purchased at the fair. The music fest will be held in Miri from May 12-15, 2011. The Rainforest World Music Festival will be held in Kuching in July this year. Special travel packages to these festivals are also available at the fair. You can win free tickets to the fest by entering radio quizzes.
Tourism experts from Sarawak are scheduled to meet their Brunei counterparts after the fair at a product update session to inform them on new product offerings in Sarawak.
