KOTA KINABALU -- State Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment Datuk Masidi Manjun expressed confidence that the improving world economy will result in an increase in tourist arrivals to Sabah.
"In 2010, we recorded 2,504,669 arrivals, and we are confident that, with the improving economy internationally, many will choose leisure travel again," he said, noting that tourism is one of the key contributors to the state GDP (Gross Domestic Product).
Masidi said this at the opening ceremony of the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (Matta) Fair Sabah, here, today.
The text of his speech was read out by his Assistant Minister, Datuk Bolkiah Ismail.
Masidi said, for this year, the target for tourist arrivals to Sabah is 2.63 million, and a tourism receipt of RM4.704 billion is expected.
