Biggest ‘Jalur Gemilang’ logo on Mount Kinabalu creates record


KUNDASANG: A ‘Jalur Gemilang’ (national flag) logo hoisted on Mt Kinabalu has made it into the Malaysia Book of Records as the biggest at the highest peak in Southeast Asia.

The logo measured nine metres high by one metre wide by five metres long and weighed 191.5 kg.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Yahya Hussin, who is chairman of the Sabah Merdeka Celebrations Main Committee, officiated at the close of the project and presented a certificate to Fifth Infantry Brigade commander Brig Gen Datuk Abdul Halim Jalal in Taman Kinabalu near here on Tuesday.

Yahya said the project was implemented by the Fifth Infantry Brigade with the assistance of federal ministries, state departments and public agencies.

Eighty climbers, 34 of them from the army and 46 from various government agencies such as the police, Royal Malaysian Navy, Civil Defence Department, Sabah People’s Volunteer Corps, Sabah Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka, Radio Televisyen Malaysia, Fire and Rescue Department, Immigration, Health Department, Broadcasting Department, Sabah Parks and the Kota Kinabalu City Hall, took part in the project.
