KOTA KINABALU: Providers of rented accommodations such as motels, hotels, resorts and homestays in Kundasang are already moving towards fulfilling requirements under the building by-law.
Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun told a press conference at his office that following a meeting with National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) chairman Tan Sri Datuk Lee Lam Thye yesterday, most of the providers of rented facilities in Kundasang were moving towards the objective deemed necessary by the Ranau District Council ever since Kundasang was gazetted as part of the council’s rating zone.
“The proprietors of these properties have agreed to the building by-law and know that if they fail after the stipulated time frame given, they will have to cease their operations,” he said.
Fortunately, said Masidi, most were already moving closer to fulfilling the requirement of the by-law.
Masidi also mentioned that his ministry would be working with NIOSH in organising an occupational safety and health seminar for hospitality operators in Kundasang and Ranau.
He said his ministry would come up with the funding for the seminar although the actual date for the seminar was yet to be established.
He added that the motive for organising such a seminar was to create awareness on the importance of health and safety issues to employers and their staff.
He also said that Kundasang is landslide prone, hence organising such an event was crucial.
