THE Sarawak Tourism Ministry has short and long-term plans in place to enhance tourism visitation and experience for the Bako Bay area.
Assistant Minister of Tourism Datuk Talib Zulpilip said among the short-term plans were incorporating the introduction, understanding and conservation of crocodiles, which are ready for tourism stakeholders to package and market.
“Boat cruising in the Bako Bay will highlight wildlife watch for crocodiles, dolphins, fireflies and proboscis monkeys,” he told Dr Hazland Hipni (PBB-Demak Laut) during question-and-answer time yesterday.
Talib said Bako Bay had been identified as part of the East-Asian-Australian Flyway for migratory shore birds.
“Proposal has been submitted to the government to construct observatory towers and hide facilities for bird enthusiasts.
“The ministry is also encouraging more homestay participation from villagers in the area.”
