Sarawak government to relaunch Gawai package

KUCHING: The government will relaunch the Gawai package next year due to overwhelming response to its inaugural package introduced this March.

However, the package should be launched at least three months prior to Gawai Dayak next year, said Tourism Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Abang Openg yesterday, so that it could be well promoted.

He expressed confidence that the package would be received well in future as participating tourists could gain unique experiences through activities relating to Gawai Dayak festival such as ‘nyiling tikai’.

“Under the package, the tourists would stay at Sarawak Cultural Village (SCV). With that kind of experience, they would be more appreciative of the diversity we have.

“And that diversity is our strength which we must preserve,” he told a press conference at the Gawai open house at Dewan Masyarakat Batu 10 in Kota Padawan organised by Ministry of Tourism Malaysia.

Although he had yet been given the statistic on the number of tourists taking up the package, Abang Johari believed that the inaugural Gawai package had attracted more than 100 people based on the accommodation capacity of SCV.
