KUCHING: Sarawak Cultural Village (SCV) general manager Jane Lian Labang is all excited to welcome musicians and hardcore world music fans who are coming to the Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) 2012 this coming weekend (July 13 to 15).
Speaking to The Borneo Post, Jane described RWMF as a “family oriented festival” and many families and regulars who had patronised the event in the last 15 years saw themselves and their children as part of the family festival.
“That is the beauty of the festival and what is really fascinating and unique is that their children also come back, bringing their friends to the event. It is great for the event as there is continuity for this group of people besides the newcomers who are here for the first time,” she said.
Jane said that the organiser had worked hard to ensure the success of the event and that had been proven in the past by the crowd numbers.
She said that the organisers and SCV had received many positive feedback from the musicians, the fans and also people from all walks of life.
“When the festival first started, there were only 300 people coming and now, there are more than twenty thousand on average. This had proven that the festival is not just about world music but is an ‘alumni’ festival and a reunion of world music fans in the heart of Borneo,” she enthused.
In terms of preparation, SCV had done a comprehensive checklist that would ensure the festival was a success and incorporated new ideas and feedback.
“We have improved the venue every year and especially the sound systems, the stage for performers and everyone who will be involved in it during the festival had given us the ‘thumbs up’, she said.
