Sarawak Rainforest World Music Festival Talent search 2011 winner to take main stage this year

KUCHING: The winners of the RWMF Talent Search 2011 held at Kuching Waterfront last year, ‘The Rhythm of Borneo’, will be taking the main stage at the Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) next week.

Armed with an arsenal of fierce percussion and traditional instruments, their music is a fusion of old tunes and ethnic rhythms with a contemporary twist. ‘Rhythm of Borneo’ is led by Ainal Bustari, the whiz-kid who is still remembered for making his debut at the RWMF when he was only six years old.

Between the years of 1998-2008, Ainal joined several well-established bands from Sarawak such as Tuku’ Kame, Tabuh Pak Ainal and Jerry Kamit and Friends to perform in the RWMF. His apprenticeship with these world music bands enriched his experience and musical skills, which he now brings with the introduction of his own band.

Catch them on RWMF stage on Friday, July 13 at RWMF. RWMF has again been voted for the third consecutive year as one of the top 25 international festivals by Songlines, the UK based music magazine. The festival will be held from the July 13 to 15, 2012.

Apart from Rhythm of Borneo, other performers of RWMF on stage will be: Oreka TX from Spain; Hata (Malaysia/Korean/Turkey/Taiwan); Mamadou Diabate (Mali/ Burkina Faso); Danyel Waro (Reunion Islands); Kanda Bongo Man (Congo); Khusugtun (Mongolia); Le Trio Joubran (Palestine); La Zikabilo (France); Raiz De Cafezal (Brazil); String Sisters (Scotland/Ireland/Sweden/Norway/USA); Cankisou (Czech Republic); Zee Avi (Malaysia/USA); The Diplomats of Drum (Malaysia) and Samuel Dass and Prakash (Malaysia).
