KUCHING: Tourism Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg says the proposal for the state governments of Sarawak and Sabah to become majority shareholders of MASwings is still on.
“We are still talking,” Johari told reporters here yesterday, when asked about updates of the proposed exercise.
“I had said before to give me until the end of this year, which is still another three months away. I will announce something (by then),” he said.
Asked if there were obstacles that had prolonged the negotiations of the proposal, which was announced in April this year, he replied that there were “some problems” on the part of Malaysia Airlines (MAS), the parent company of MASwings.
“MAS is doing their own review. The airline is in the process of turning around. You have to consider that,” said Johari, who is also Housing Minister.
