SIBU: Second Finance Minister Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh expects better air connectivity for Sibu in the next couple of years as more people are expected to come here on account of Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE).
He mentioned Tanjung Manis Halal Hub and University College Technology Sarawak (UCTS) as two of many catalysts.
“There will be more people coming in and out (of Sibu). On top of that, there are domestic tourists coming here. So, we have a reason to ask for more flights in and out of Sibu; and with newly upgraded Sibu Airport, we are asking for more direct flights.
“We will work hard to promote Sibu as a tourism centre,” the Local Government and Community Development Minister said when officiating at the closing of the 1Malaysia Food Fair at Sibu Town Square Phase II here on Sunday.
The 1Malaysia Food Fair, into its third year, started on Dec 15 last year and ended last Sunday.
