7.2 per cent increase in visitors’ arrival in Sarawak


KUCHING: Sarawak recorded an increase of 7.2 per cent in visitors’ arrival last year to touch the 4.07 million mark.

A statement from Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) said foreign arrivals alone saw an increase of 12.4 per cent, accounting for 2.6 million arrivals.

The increase of tourist arrivals was attributed to the growing interest to the varied adventure attractions in the state.

“Various new events are being created in line with the board’s transformation strategy to climb the value chain from leisure based to that of tourism events.

“Other added emphasis is the concept of adventure product experiences such as the destination’s exotic flora and fauna, the National Parks and the World Heritage Site of Mulu National Park, which is also Sarawak’s best selling point,” it said.

Meanwhile, STB said Sarawak once again participated at the annual Matta Fair currently being held at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) Kuala Lumpur until today (March 17).

The state’s booth features its promotion of adventure lifestyle holiday packages ranging from wildlife safari, adventure caving, ethnic longhouse tour, jungle resort to beach resort holidays with the element of culture, adventure and various nature based experience.

Located at Hall 3 at the PWTC, the booth is shared by tour operators and hoteliers mainly from Kuching, Miri and Sibu promoting many attractive packages at unbelievable prices.

“Sarawak heavily features its varied adventure attractions in line with the tagline of ‘Sarawak, Where Adventure Lives’, and, among others, features its iconic musical event — Rainforest World Music Festival, which will be held from June 28 to 30 this year,” said the statement.

Sarawak packages features from as low as RM160 per person for 3-day-2-night stay inclusive of airport transfers and various tours in Sibu; Food and Culture packages at only RM432 in Kuching City, as well as adventure in Miri and Mulu National Park which are offered at a very attractive prices.
