Sarawak Cultural Village to screen non-stop on March 28 films submitted for Asean festival and awards


KUCHING: All films submitted for the 2013 Asean Film Festival and Awards (Aiffa) will be screened at the Sarawak Cultural Village (SCV) on March 28.

Those purchasing tickets at only RM18 per head to SCV’s ‘Movies in the Rainforest’ will get to enjoy the best film arts Asean has to offer in the ambience of a natural rainforest.

More than 80 comprehensive array of films submitted for both the competition and special screening from all over Asean, United States, Iran, India and United Kingdom are to be screened non-stop at various locations in the village from 12 noon to 7am the following day.

“Some 5,000 crowd are expected to attend the marathon showcase of films starting Thursday at SCV’s main auditorium. At sunset the showcase expands to seven other venues in the village to include an all night screening of feature films,” Aiffa 2013 Festival director Livan Tajang told a press conference at Wisma Sultan Tengah here yesterday.

Sarawak Tourism Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg will be among those present.

Patrons are encouraged to bring blankets and chairs to enjoy more than 20 hours of film. The highlight of the night include the announcement of feature film nominees eligible for awards on Saturday. The winners of the short film competition will be announced on opening night.

Films nominated for the grand finale will be screened at the State Tourism Complex from 10 am to 10 pm on March 29 and 30.

The venue for the award presentation gala – the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) – will also air nominated films from 10am.
