MIRI: Works on extending the two parking aprons at Miri Airport are now in their final stage and should be completed by the end of this month.
Speaking at a press conference in Miri Airport Bhd (MAB) office yesterday, Assistant Minister of Communications Datuk Lee Kim Shin said the parking aprons would be used by different makes of aircraft.
“For southern apron, it will be used to cater for four additional Boeing A320 and A380 Airbus aircraft, while the northern apron will cater for nine ATR aircraft and four Twin Otter aircraft.”
He also said the project included a covered walkway of roughly 800m from end-to-end to the terminal building to protect passengers from the sun and rain.
For the comfort of passengers with immobility or senior citizens, Lee suggested that MAB would provide an alternative so that the passengers would not have to walk a long distance.
Lee said the project was expected to be handed over to MAB by Feb 28.
“Prior to the operational date, which has tentatively been scheduled on Feb 29, DCA (Department of Civil Aviation) is now making arrangements for personnel from its headquarters in Putrajaya to come in on Feb 23 to conduct a final check and do all the necessary calibration.
“If all go smoothly, it would be open for the first flight coming in to Miri on Feb 29, and we are keeping our expectation high,” he said.
