We had the chance to stay at The Magellan Sutera Resort, Sutera Harbour Resort recently. The resort is uniquely different from other resorts that we have been to. Some say, the difference is due to its unique architecture that is pretty much inspired by the Rungus longhouses of Borneo.
For the two of us, this resort gave us that tranquility of the sea that we’ve witnessed from our own balcony. We felt so relaxed here. This is truly great resort in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. We love our room so much that we dedicate this entry alone to review the room that we stayed in for 1 night. A short stay but we both saw many beautiful things in this mammoth resort that always stay humble. We really mean that.
Our Arrival
When we arrived at Magellan Sutera Resort lobby, we’re amazed by its size and many symmetrical shapes scattered all over the hall. We immediately knew that we’re at the perfect resort. If they can build something grand like this just for the lobby, the rooms must be nice too…well, that was our first impression. Check-in was easy.
We showed up at the reception desk and in less than 5 minutes, we received our key-card already. That was 12.30 pm, far from the 2 pm normal check-in time. It’s nice to know that staffs here tried their very best to accommodate us rather than making us wandering around clueless.
Though we’re booked in a normal Deluxe Sea View Twin room, we were then given access to the prestigious Magellan Club thus enabling us to enjoy the many exclusive privileges offered only to Club and Suites guests. Those privileges are:
- Breakfast at the private and exclusive The Magellan Club Lounge or Five Sails Restaurant from 6.30 am to 10.30 am.
- Evening Drinks at the Magellan Club Lounge from 5.30 pm to 7.00 pm.
- Complimentary free flow of coffee and tea at The Magellan Club Lounge all day.
- Complimentary local newspaper.
- Complimentary unlimited Internet broadband access in the room.
Our Room-The View
There’s nothing much more worthy than the view seen from our room, the breeze and definitely the sound of the waves. One thing that we regret, we stayed too short, a night when we should have opted to stay a bit longer. All of The Magellan Sutera Resort luxuriously appointed rooms and suites feature balconies that offer either the garden view or the azure tranquility of the South China Sea.
We were lucky. We had that amazing sea view! It’s pretty hard to leave our room or the balcony to be precise. I even got myself seated on that deck chair very late in the evening so that I can smell and hear the sea.
