Sabah teams up with Brunei in tourism


KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Tourism Board (STB) is cooperating with Royal Brunei Airlines (RBA) to boost tourism for Borneo area.

A memorandum of cooperation has been signed between Brunei’s national carrier and Sabah Tourism Board (STB) to tap the Australian market by jointly promoting tourism activities in view of the inflow of tourists from Melbourne.

The agreement, the first of its kind between Brunei and Sabah, was signed by STB general manager Gordon Yapp and RBA executive general manager Brett McDougall.

The event was witnessed by Sabah Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun and RBA chief executive officer Kram Chand.

“STB has worked with RBA before on several joint promotions, be it for Australian market or long-haul services such as to the UK.

“Therefore, this memorandum of cooperation will further intensify and cement our working relationship for future mutual benefits,” Masidi said.

As part of the cooperation, the two parties agreed to cost-share the promotional activities that will centre on stimulating the increase of Australian tourists into Sabah and Brunei.

Selected Australian travel agents will be appointed to sell special packages, includings a dedicated Return and Services Leagues (RSL) package to attend the Sandakan Day Memorial Service in Sabah this year.
