KOTA KINABALU: The Kota Kinabalu International Film Festival (KKIFF) is back again for its 9th edition on July 22-29 featuring 18 films from nine ASEAN countries, Taiwan and Korea.
KKIFF festival director June Day said there would also be nine films from Europe, Latin America and New Zealand.
“The festival is proud to announce that it will be showing Malaysian films on the opening and closing nights,” she said during a courtesy call on Sabah Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun at his office here recently.
Day said it was important that Malaysian and South-East Asian filmmakers supported the KKIFF as reflected in this year’s film programme. All the movies, with English subtitles, will be shown at MBO Imago Mall.
During the opening night on July 22, she said ‘Redha’, a Malaysian film selected for the Academy Awards Best Foreign Language Film 2016, will be screened. It is about a family with an autistic child.
“The film’s director, Tunku Mona Riza will be present to give a public talk about the film and her journey in making the movie,” said Day adding that Mona Riza believed strongly the public needs to be more informed about autism.
