Kuching: In Georgian, ‘shin’ means being or going home. Over the Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) weekend, The Shin from the Republic of Georgia will lead you through their home country with their interesting meld of jazz scat, funk, flamenco with Georgian-style vocal polyphony.
The Shin’s band members have composed original works for theatre, film, television and radio programmes around the world. They have also performed at international festivals and received significant critical acclaim for their unparalleled originality and musical appeal. Their concerts are known for being sophisticated, surprising, hip, humorous, and always exhilarating – even in their most subtle moments.
The Shin will also be joined at the RWMF by internationally-renowned Bulgarian Theodosii Spassov on the ‘kaval’, a traditional end-blown flute customarily associated with shepherds in the Balkans and Anatolia.
The exciting and eclectic line-up for this year’s RWMF has been finalised, with 21 bands making their debut appearance on the RWMF 2011 stage from July 8 to 10 at the Sarawak Cultural Village.
The three-day event is jam-packed with musical activities like informative workshops, ethno-musical lectures, jamming sessions and mini concerts.
