KUCHING: Come to the Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) this year for a taste of Brazil.
Raiz de Cafezal, a Brazilian band will be playing the Carimbó, a distinctive musical style of Brazil’s Amazonian Indians, named after a traditional instrument made from tree trunks at the festival.
The band comes straight from the heartland of this music, deep in the coffee plantation country – Magalhães Barata – a town and municipality in Northern Brazil that has only 3,000 inhabitants.
The founder of this group is composer and musician Flávio Monteiro, also known as Cizico. He plays percussion, composes and also makes traditional instruments – the Carimbó, Maracas and Milheiros. The Carimbo is passed down through the generations and is ancient and compelling.
Raiz de Cafezal will take to the stage on Saturday, July 14.
Take this opportunity to listen to this ancient but great music.
Or why not learn to dance the Brazilian way at one of their workshops in the afternoon?
If you have not bought your tickets to the festival yet, do so now either at the Visitors’ Information Centres (VICs) in Kuching, Miri or Sibu or buy online at www.rwmf.net.
