MIRI: The Ministry of Social Development’s Sanggar Budaya dance troupe is on its way to Japan for a five-day visit.
Tourism Malaysia Japan invited the 14 dancers following their win at a national-level competition in Kuala Lumpur last year.
Cultural section dance instructor Desmond Sagoh said the troupe would perform at a Tokyo shopping mall on Saturday (June 9).
He is also scheduled to give a talk on Sarawak cultural dances to university students next Monday.
The group received spending money from Minister of Energy, Green Technology and Water Datuk Seri Peter Chin yesterday.
Chin’s political secretary Datuk Sebastian Ting presented the money on his behalf.
“It is a great honour for you to be selected to represent and to promote our culture and heritage at international level. It is not easy to be given the honour or the opportunity to represent the country,” said Ting.
