KUCHING: The duly awaited ‘big jump’ in ticket sales for the Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) 2010 has finally happened with close to 7,000 sold as at yesterday compared to 1,725 counted on June 23.
Minister of Tourism and Heritage Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan told reporters yesterday that he was happy with this and hoped that they would be able to meet their 20,000 ticket sales target.
“I’m happy that despite the slow start, we are doing very well now. I was told that at the last count, sales were close to 7,000 tickets.
“Hopefully it will meet our target to get as many as 20,000 ticket sales in the few days that we have,” he remarked during the presentation of sponsorship from Celcom Xpax to RWMF.
In addition, Dr Chan also hoped that publicity activities for the festival would start earlier next year and that the RWMF experience could be spread throughout Kuching city.
“I hope that next year publicity could start earlier not only locally but also throughout the whole world.
“Beside improving the venue, we could also spread the festival to the city so that the festival would not be confined to Santubong area but (spread throughout) the whole city,” he suggested.
According to him, this will benefit businesses, locals and tourists.
However, Dr Chan said he was not in favour of having RWMF-based concerts in hotels as it lacks the ‘same feeling of RWMF’.
