Sepilok Research Centre to get more allocation from Tourism Ministry

KOTA KINABALU: The Sepilok Research Centre will get more allocation from the Malaysia Ministry of Tourism for the conservation and protection of Bornean sun bears.

Its minister, Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen, said it was most appropriate as the centre was already working to conserve and protect orang utans.

“We all know that Sepilok is world famous for looking after orang utans and we will now add sun bears as a new ‘product’ that is in line with the objectives of the centre.

“We have discussed the matter with the experts in Sepilok. Visitors who come to Sepilok will be able to view not only orang utans up close but sun bears too,” she said when speaking at a press conference at the Kota Kinabalu International Airport yesterday before departing to the federal capital after a three-day working visit to Sabah.

Her visit was to inspect how the allocation given by her Ministry to Sabah had been utilised in order to evaluate the application for funding this year under the third phase of the 10th Malaysia Plan (10MP).
