KUCHING: Thousands of fans thronged the tree stage arena they dubbed ‘Ground Zero’ for the explosive opening performance of the Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) on Friday night.
The curtain raiser was none other than a performance of Sarawak’s own warrior dance and the world famous ‘sape’ followed by the band, Nading Rhapsody.
Taking centre stage later was a band, Trio Joubran from Palestine, that left a strong message on world peace and believes music is a unifying factor for the world.
Playing a 4,000-year-old musical instrument called the ‘Oud’, the band comprising brothers took the stage for one hour before giving way to the String Sisters.
After years of persuasion to perform at RWMF, the band comprising fiddle players from Scotland, Norway, Ireland, Sweden and America was no disappointment as it managed to make the crowd rise to their feet.
