Sabah stopover for national food carnival

Kota Kinabalu: The Fabulous Food 1Malaysia carnival, a national agenda to promote tourism in the country, will make its maiden Sabah stopover at the Lido Square, near here, on Dec 26.

With the State round to be organised by the Lido Hawkers Association, the event will showcase local delicacies such as nasi lemak, satay and curry laksa, among others, sold by more than 30 hawkers and food sellers here.

The Ministry of Tourism launched the food carnival, which would be an annual programme, recently to bolster the nation's tourism industry by promoting Malaysia's local cuisine to locals and tourists.

Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Ng Yen Yen had said that her Ministry would dedicate the last three months of the year for food promotion, with December designated to promote Malaysian restaurants and street or hawker food.

Association Secretary Andrew Yong, who is also the event organising chairman, said the carnival will start at 4pm, with Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister, Datuk Masidi Manjun, expected to launch the event at 5.30pm.

"We thank the (Federal) Ministry of Tourism and Tourism, Culture and Environment Ministry for their support," he told a media conference here, Wednesday.
