Kirksontour: Crossing Sabah by plane, bus and boat

Today was a travelling day. We left at 6.30am for Sandakan airport for our 8.15am Air Asia flight to Kota Kinabalu.

There was a great little shop there and got some handbags and souvenirs.

Flight was the shortest I've ever been on. It was scheduled as 45 minutes but we were only in the air for about 20 minutes.

Was disconcerting. Beautiful view of Mount Kinabalu from the right hand side as we flew past.

Landed in Kota Kinabalu and then had a long bus trip to the jetty where we would catch boat to Pulau Tiga.

It was about 3 hours along a busy road through the outskirts of KK and then villages.

The road ran along the coast so could see the water most of the time, and ladies drying fish on their front lawns.

Boat trip was on a 12 seater speedboat for 30 minutes, which was great fun. Palau Tiga is also known as Survivor Island as the first series of Survivor was filmed here.

There are lots of props from the show around the place, which gives it a fun feel, although weird because the decorations aren't very Malaysian.

We dumped out stuff and had a late lunch, then put on our togs and walked 1.2km inland along a mosquito ridden path the the famous mud pool.
