Miri City Council to go digital in promoting Visit Miri Year 2018

MIRI: Miri City Council (MCC) will utilise digital platforms to promote Visit Miri Year 2018 in addition to traditional marketing approaches.

Its tourism development standing committee chairman, Councillor Ernest Goh said the strategy was in line with the government’s effort to digitise the state economy.

“Digital marketing has an advantage over traditional marketing because it is cost-efficient, draws out real-time results, measurable, encourages higher customer engagement, allows effective brand development and gives higher exposure,” he said after unveiling the official logo for Visit Miri Year (VMY) 2018 and at Miri Marriott Resort and Spa yesterday.

Goh explained the digital promotion of VMY 2018 will involve Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, search engine optimisation, mobile apps, emails and digital advertising.

In addition to that, he pointed the council will also use online hotel platforms to increase the hotel occupancy, as well as e-commerce approach to enable local producers to market their products.

“The VMY 2018 will be an economic booster not only for Miri, but also Sarawak and Malaysia as a whole.

“With the tagline ‘Discover Miri, Uniquely Borneo’, VMY 2018 will have spin-off effects to tourism organisations,  hotels, cottage industries, businesses and other partners from across the state and country.”

Following the unveiling of the VMY 2018 logo, Goh announced the release of the new version of Miri App v1.1.

He pointed out that since the release of the mobile app last year, the council has made various improvements to the app apart from updating its content.

“To date, almost 8,000 people have downloaded the Miri App which features comprehensive information on tourist attraction places, eateries, accommodation, transportation and many others.”
