Inaugural Eastar Jet direct flight arrives in Kuching

KUCHING: The inaugural Eastar Jet direct flight from Seoul, South Korea to Kuching arrived at the Kuching International Airport (KIA) at 1.10am on Christmas Day.

On hand to welcome the 114 passengers were Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan, Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) chief executive officer Datuk Rashid Khan, Sarawak Tourism Federation (STF) president Wee Hong Seng, and Eastar Jet president Yang Hae-Gu.

Dr Chan, who is also Tourism and Heritage Minister, told a press conference before the flight landed that the chartered flight was a good start to the working relationship between the state and South Korea.

He explained that this was the first time Kuching had an international direct flight from the country.

“As I know, this is the first international route of Eastar Jet, the Seoul-based low cost airline. It is our honour that Kuching is the first international destination of the airline,” he said.

He added that the direct service would also help to strengthen the relationship between Malaysia and Korea.
