TUARAN: Adventure seekers had fun at the foothills of Mount Kinabalu in the 12th edition of the Kiulu 4M Challenge on a recent weekend.
More than 180 thrill seekers, including tourists, tried their skills at navigating rafts through Sungai Kiulu’s rapids, running, swimming and walking on bamboo stilts at the annual extreme sports event in the hills tucked around Kiulu near here.
The event held to promote tourism is dubbed 4M in reference to the Kadazandusun words manangkus (running), mamangkar (bamboo rafting), manampatau (swimming with a bamboo pole) and mamarampanau (walking on bamboo stilts).
Participants can take part in seven categories including the X-Treme Men’s Open where seasoned sportsmen have to complete a 16km run, paddle 16km on a bamboo raft and swim 1.3km before completing the race by walking 200m on bamboo stilts.
