8,000 China tourists to visit Labuan monthly


LABUAN: People in Labuan, which is facing an economic slowdown due to weak oil prices, will soon have a reason to smile as an average 8,000 tourists from China is expected to spend their vacation there each month.

Labuan MP Datuk Rozman Datuk Isli said six major cities in China namely Kunming, Changsha, Chengdu, Chongqing, Wuhan and Zheng zhou have chosen the tropical island as their newest holiday destination.

“It is expected that about 2,000 tourists from China will be in Labuan each week through two chartered flights flying in directly from each of the six cities,” he said.

Rozman said this when opening the “Pesta Damai & Labuan International Sea Challenge 2016” at the Anjung Budaya, Taman Damai Layang-Layang here on Saturday.

Also present were Labuan Corporation Tourism, Culture & Arts Department director Ernie Mohammad, Ministry of Tourism and Culture Labuan office director Vinson Embaran, Labuan Corporation Planning and Building Control Department director Ibrahim Tambi and Municipal Services Department director Fadzilah Mahmud.
