International jazz performers to gather in Miri

KUCHING (Bernama) - Hundreds of jazz performers from China, Europe and South Korea will gather in Miri for two days to perform at the Miri International Jazz Festival beginning May 12.

The festival, Miri's first international class musical event, will present an attractive mix of international jazz performers from Benin, the Netherlands, Spain, France, South Korea, the United Kingdom and China.

Among them are Europe's favourite Fra Fra Sound, New Orleans' rhythm of Gangbe Brass Band, Lluis Coloma, French jazz quartet Nan Youn Sun, Cuban styled Quinteto Jumbo and the Shanghai Jazz Ensemble.

The foreign groups will be joined by Sarawak's very owned, "All the Best" and the combined Singapore-Sarawak group with locally bred performer Trevor Jala and his "UBlues" group.

"The sales of tickets have picked up tremendously over the weekend and the bulk of it were from Brunei," Sarawak Tourism Board said in a statement.

The festival will be held at Park City Everly Hotel.

Tickets, available at Miri Visitors' Information Centre, are priced at RM50 for a day pass and RM80 for a two-day pass.
