Sabah tour operators have been told to advise their guests that State is safe

SANDAKAN: Tour operators have been told to advise their guests that the State is safe to visit as the state security has been tightened.

Sabah Tourism, Culture and Environment Ministry is permanent secretary Datuk Michael Emban said foreign visitors need not worry about their safety.

Speaking to reporters after chairing a special working team on tourism here yesterday, he said the government has placed the necessary security blanket to ensure that Sabah is safe.

“We cannot deny that there has been a drop in tourist arrivals but those who intend to come over to visit Sabah can be assured that they will be safe,” he said.

He added that the ground zero was far from areas offering various tourist attractions.

Michael urged industry players to step up their promotions while the government is embarking on its own programmes to attract visitors to Sabah.

Meanwhile, pro tem Sandakan Tour Operators Association chairman Datuk John Lim said the operators would continue with its efforts to promote tourism in Sandakan.
