6,000 expected to visit Sabah Fest 2016

KOTA KINABALU: The number of visitors to the Sabah Fest 2016 is expected to reach between 5,000 and 6,000 this year, said event organiser Sri Pelancongan Sabah Sdn Bhd.

Sri Pelancongan Sabah Sdn Bhd’s general manager Sitti B. Damsal said she anticipated about 400 tickets for the event’s musical theatre, ‘Gulu Gulu – A Tribute to the Past’ would be sold throughout the three-day event.

“We received many walk-in audience especially foreign visitors to ‘Gulu Gulu’ and heard quite a lot of positive comments about the show. The public definitely wants to know more about Sabah’s legends and history,” she told Bernama on Saturday night.

Sabah Fest 2016: A Celebration of Sabah’s Natural Charms opened on Friday with a musical and dance theatre about legendary warrior Mat Salleh who fought against the British North Borneo Chartered Company rule from 1894 to 1900 in Sabah.

Yang DiPertua Negeri Tun Juhar Mahiruddin had launched the grand opening of the festival at the Sabah National Culture and Arts Department auditorium on Saturday evening.

Sitti said this year’s festival differed from previous editions in that a real historical figure and his trials and tribulations were featured as the musical’s main theme.
