Sarawak Tourism Board proud to host Borneo Jazz 2012

MIRI: The Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) is proud to host this year’s Borneo Jazz 2012, which is in its 7th edition and the second year after it was renamed Borneo Jazz.

The festival provides a magical stage where renowned jazz musicians and their fans from all over the world come together to celebrate jazz music amidst a lush, green tropical paradise, where new and old friends discover and indulge in the rich heritage of Borneo.

STB chief executive officer (CEO) who is also the festival steering committee chairman Datuk Rashid Khan said the festival began with a preview show on Thursday followed by two nights of performances on-stage last night (Friday) and tonight.

The award winning Chung Hua School marching band will also be featured this afternoon.

“And for the first time, we will feature a craft bazaar where we have craft demonstrations as well as sale of various craft from various ethnic groups,” said Rashid.

This year, the board continued its greening of the festival with a tree planting ceremony at Curtin University on Thursday. The board has also taken steps to encourage the use of green products and practices at the festival.

“We have a great line up and the bands who will be taking the stage this year come from almost all continents from as far as the United States, South Africa, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the Netherlands and our neighbours, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia and not forgetting our own Malaysian band featuring Mirian Dean Sim on the guitar,” said Rashid.
