KOTA KINABALU: THE best of Sabah came to life in a musical stage show which became an instant hit here in the last three nights.
Consecutively packed with audiences at each of the three shows since Thursday, the "The Adventures of Ngarayang" had won praises from those who watched it.
It was the main event of the three-day Sabah Fest extravaganza that ended yesterday.
For Briton Jimmy Colhan, 54, the show gave him an insight into the lives of the local people.
"This is my first visit to the state and after watching the musical, I have an idea of how wedding ceremonies of ethnic groups are conducted.
"Sabah people should be proud because they come from different cultures and background but are able to live together in harmony."
Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Juhar Mahiruddin launched the musical two days ago at the Sabah National Arts and Culture Complex here.
He was accompanied by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman and Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun.
The musical is a romantic adventure story which tells of a young mischievous adventurer and trader named Ngarayang and his travels along the west coast of Sabah from Pulau Banggi to Kuala Penyu.
Along the way, he joins the cultural events of the places he visits.
Gifted with a flair for storytelling, Ngarayang captivates his audience wherever he goes with wondrous stories of his travels and tales of exotic cultures. During his journey, he also meets a beautiful Suluk princess and falls in love.
The musical highlighted the culture of Kadazandusun tribes like the Bonggi and Kimaragang.
