14 dance groups invited to join Sibu International Dance Festival


SIBU: Fourteen dance groups from Peninsular Malaysia, Sarawak and abroad have been invited to join the forthcoming Sibu International Dance Festival.

The prestigious event is organised by Hornland Dance Theatre here with the support of Sibu Municipal Council and held for three evenings from 7.30pm to 9.45pm on Aug 15 to 17 at the civic centre.

According to the theatre artistic director Chen Ing Kuan, the various types of dance to be performed would encompass ethnic, contemporary, ballroom and line dances.

Among the teams, he said, is the ballroom dancing team from Guangzhou Art School, China, that had won the Latin Dance and Modern Dance category at the Blackpool International Ballroom Dance Competition, United Kingdom in 2011 and 2012.

“This well-trained team also won plenty of dance competitions in China,” he said.

He said another dance troupe the Papartelis, from Lithuania, is also a well-known folk dance group in Europe.

He said the troupe not only organised tour performances around the world, but also cooperates with dance colleges in France to promote the unique folk dance of Lithuania.

“Other professional dance groups such as Ku & Dancers, Taiwan and Frontier Danceland, Singapore are also well known in Asia. They will perform their signature dances at this event.
