Traditional cultural arts have potential to become cultural attraction

KUCHING: Traditional cultural arts like lion dance have potential to become a cultural attraction as well as to ensure the country’s harmony.

In stating this, SUPP vice president Tan Joo Phoi added that it was one way for them to show the 1Malaysia spirit and patriotism.

“This also encourages more people from the Chinese community and non-Chinese to take part in presenting the lion dance at formal and informal events,” he said when met by reporters after officiating at the Lion Head Eye-Dotting Ceremony at Kong San Si Temple here yesterday.

Tan, who is also the temple committee’s honorary advisor, added that lion dances bring joy to everyone regardless of cultural background.

The Chinese also believe the lion can chase evil elements and bring luck when performed, he explained.
