Grand finale for Sibu International Dance Festival

SIBU: The fifth Sibu International Dance Festival (SIDF) came to a close on Tuesday with outdoor performances and a drawing competition at Kutien Memorial Park.

Hundreds thronged the venue around 5pm to witness the final performances.

The 14 troupes were Nantha Muni Bamrung Dance Group (Thailand); Florent Schwartz Dance Company (Taiwan); Jalingeur Art Dance Company (Indonesia); Imprint Macau Dance Association (Macau); Yu Hua Secondary School Cultural Club Dance Group (Malaysia); ZukDance Company (Spain); Loka Art Studio (Indonesia); Liquid Skin (Australia); Nrutya Naad (Mauritius); DPAC Dance Company (Malaysia); SIM Dance Art (Singapore); Lee Wushu Arts Theatre (Malaysia); Martina Feiertag (Germany); and Found Nation Crew (Japan).

For second-time participant Patrick Suzeau of Cohan/Suzeau Dance Company in the United States, the festival was a great experience.

“I had such a good time the first time, I thought, why not come back again.

“Sibu is indeed a very lovely place. I love this festival; I think it is extraordinary that there is such a festival with so many different artistes from so many parts of the world with different aesthetics and different points of view.

“They are all very creative and I think the event is great for the locals as well as for us to see what is going on,” he said.

Suzeau, who has been involved in the industry for about 50 years, said he learned many things from the festival and was particularly impressed with Found Nation Crew.
