Hubei Wanda New Airlines eyes Sarawak destination


MIRI: Hubei Wanda New Airlines International Travel Services Co Ltd, part of the Wanda corporate group and one of the top five conglomerates in China, is determined to make Sarawak (Miri in particular) the focus of its new destination.

Its general manager Xie Hong said they had identified Malindo Air as one of the possible air carriers to fulfill chartered flights out of Wuhan City in Hubei Province.

For a start, they will have chartered flights during the 2017 Chinese New Year season to Miri and Kuching.

“We sincerely hope through Malindo Air from China to Miri and Kuching, more tourists will explore the many tourist attractions in Sarawak and China.

“Currently we have direct flights from Wuhan to Gold Coast, Australia and are looking to Sarawak as a new destination,” he told a joint press conference in Miri on Tuesday night.

Among those present were Arts and Culture Assistant Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin, Piasau Assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting, Miri Mayor Adam Yii, Mita Sarawak Chapter exco member Gracie Geikei, Malindo Air chief commercial officer Dato Bernard Francis, deputy general manager of Hubei Wanda New Airlines International Travel Services, Huang Su; China Youth Travel Service (CYTS) general manager Chen Lin and her deputy Zheng Yuling.

Xie Hong and delegation of product specialist team from the airline including from CYTS are in Miri after being in Kuching last Saturday to see products of interest to Chinese tourists.

They discussed suitable tourism packages with Miri’s travel industry as well as the chartered flight.

Among the tourism attractions they visited in Miri were Lambir Hills National Park and its coastal areas.
