Sarawak tourism industry to get boost from Malaysia Inbound Tourism Association

MIRI: Sarawak’s tourism industry will be given a further boost and rejuvenated once the newly set-up Malaysia Inbound Tourism Association (Mita) Sarawak Chapter is in full operation to collectively market and promote the state’s tour packages.

Mita Sarawak exco member Gracie Geikei said the chapter was set up in May this year with 26 members, and would be launched on Sept 21 by Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg, who is also Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister.

“Mita had identified 101 tour packages for Sarawak, the majority in Kuching, followed by Miri – 32 and six in Sibu.

“Along with these 101 packages, we also have festivals and events including the Borneo Jazz Festival in Miri,” she said during the dialogue between Malindo Air and tourism players here yesterday.

Assistant Minister for Tourism Datuk Lee Kim Shin chaired the dialogue. Among those present were Miri mayor Adam Yii, Malindo Air chief commercial officer Dato Bernard Francis and representatives of the Miri Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Malaysia Airport and tour operators and hoteliers.

Gracie added that the formation of Mita was solely to rejuvenate and boost inbound tourism for Sarawak.
