Smooth sailing for Brunei-Sabah ferry service

By Azlan Othman

Several government officials from Brunei Darussalam boarded the 'MV Shuttle Hope' vessel for a trial run of the Serasa-Menumbok ferry service yesterday to ensure that everything was in order ahead of its December 30, 2009 maiden voyage.

According to a representative of PKL Jaya Sdn Bhd, the local company that owns the vessel, there will be a half-price promotion from December 30 and December 31, 2009.

The normal rate for each vehicle (including the driver) is $70 per trip i.e. from Serasa to Menumbok or vice-versa. A $25-fee will be incurred for each passenger in the vehicle. Children below the ages of 13 will be charged half price.

The eight-million-dollar ferry can carry 200 passengers and 45 saloon vehicles, including 4WDs, at a cruising speed of 15 knots.
