15 to vie for Miss World Harvest Festival

KUCHING: Fifteen beauties have been selected, out of 50 participants, for the finals of the Miss World Harvest Festival 2011 at Riverside Majestic Hotel yesterday.

They are Sharifah Elya Nabila, 23, Ashiela Bakri, 19, Princess Alma Ridi, 20, Suljirina Lucas, 27, Zaineera Zada Amir, 21, Erlin Christopher, 26, Faynella Saing, 18, Melliane Stupher Johnson, 19, Hafiza Basir, 21, Grace John, 20,Nor Faizah Latif, 18, Emilya George, 26, Dorothy Dolly, 21, Azerina Sabri, 20, and Liyana Eddie Eskal, 18.

The contest was previously known as the Miss Fair and Lovely World Harvest Festival.

The main committee of World Harvest Festival (WHF) 2011 received more than 120 applications from throughout the state.

According to Festival director Zaini Zainuddin, this year’s contect would be more competitive with the emergence of more talented, academically qualified and confident contestants. Winners will each receive a cash prize, crown, sash as well as subsidiary prizes.

The annual beauty pageant is organised by the Sarawak Cultural Village (SCV) as one of the programmes for the World Harvest Festival 2011, which has the support of the Ministry of Tourism and Heritage Sarawak.

The festival to be held at the Sarawak Cultural Village from May 28 to 29 will line up the finals of the Miss World Harvest Festival, staging of a Bidayuh legendary tale, international cultural concert with interactive workshops on dance and music, Ironman WHF 2011, Dayak Food Festival and more.
