Miri aspires to be Green Resort City

MIRI: This year, the City Day celebration on May 20 will carry a message and aspiration for Mirians to achieve the vision of Miri as a Green Resort City where people live in peace and harmony together.

The message and aspiration to mark the seventh anniversary of Miri as a city will be expressed in three activities: The Largest Orang Ulu Long Dance, The Largest Line Dance, and Food Fair to be held at Miri Stadium.

Apart from breaking new records in The Malaysia Book of Record (Mybor), The Largest Orang Ulu Long Dance and The Largest Line Dance are to promote understanding and unity among the people from various racial and ethnic groups as well as the international community.

“Mirians including foreigners living in Miri are welcome to join and make history as the largest gathering of people in Orang Ulu Long Dance and Line Dance in the country,” said Mayor Lawrence Lai yesterday.

The previous record was 1,500 for the Orang Ulu Long Dance and 8,000 for Line Dance.

“We hope Miri will create a new record of 2,000 for the Long Dance and 10,000 for the Line Dance. In this context, I urge Mirians to come forward to give their support to ensure the success of both attempts and promote unity and understanding among the people under the 1Malaysia concept,” said Lai.

At the same time, the events will promote and encourage the ‘green’ concept where participants are given ‘Miri Go Green’ t-shirts.
