Sarawak can be a preferred destination for Germans

MIRI: Sarawak, especially Miri, can be one of the preferred destinations for German tourists as Germans love adventure, nature and jazz music, said German Ambassador to Malaysia Dr Guenter Georg Gruber here on Friday.

Borneo Jazz Festival is another good reason for us to come to Sarawak, particularly Miri,” said Gruber, who joined revellers at the festival, which was held at ParkCity Everly Hotel, with his wife.

Assuring the state of future co-operation in the area of tourism and other sectors, Gruber said Germans love natural wonders, culture and adventure.

“Jazz, and this festival, will be an added attraction for them and others from European countries to visit Sarawak.

“This festival is special because it is held in a unique  setting amid  a tropical environment,” he said, adding that Germans were the biggest travellers in the world.

Minister of Tourism Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Abang Openg, who was also present, told those present that he went for a travel trade in Berlin two months ago and found that response and interests among Germans and Europeans towards the state were very encouraging.

“Germany is a developed country in Europe under the European Union.  A lot of them would be going to Frankfurt, and from Frankfurt they fly over to this part of the world. They are very adventurous.
