Sarawak Rainforest World Music Festival enters new decade

AFTER its rousing 10th anniversary celebration last year, Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) is entering a new decade with the promise of a value-added experience.

The festival, which won the Pacific Asia Travel Association Gold Award in 2006, will be held from July 11 to 13 at Sarawak Cultural Village, a 45-minute drive from Kuching, with the picturesque Mount Santubong as its backdrop.

With 15 groups performing this year, festival goers can expect genres of world music ranging from Celtic fusion, Socca and folk to Baul fusion and traditional.

The performers are coming from all corners the world including Britain, Gambia, Guinea, the Philippines, Japan, Palestine, Greece, Portugal, Congo, Columbia, Brazil, the United States, India and Angola, Italy and Portugal.

The foreign bands were selected from more than 450 applications submitted to the RMWF organising committee.
