Organiser aims to make Miri Country Music Fest brand for Miri

MIRI: UCSI Communications Sdn Bhd aspires to make Miri Country Music Fest (MCMF) a brand for the city.

The MCMF is endorsed by Miri City Council (MCC) and ParkCity Everly Hotel Miri, which will be the official venue for the event for the next five years.

Planet Borneo Tours and Travel Services Sdn Bhd is the official tour operator for the event.

Its managing director, Gracie Geikie, expressed confidence that MCMF will be able to stage its uniqueness in the music festival industry.

“This inaugural MCMF is going to add another value to the existing music festival in Miri which is Borneo Jazz Festival and the upcoming Asian Music Festival to be held October this year.

“While, this MCMF is going to be held on Feb 15 next year at ParkCity Everly Hotel Miri, we expect to draw some 6,000 people to the event,” she stated in a joint press conference with Miri mayor Lawrence Lai to introduce the MCMF at ParkCity Everly Hotel Miri yesterday.

She further said the music fest will feature both local and international artistes and in the line-up are bands from Kuala Lumpur, Kota Kinabalu, Brunei, Philippines, Australia and United States (US).

According to her, discussions are still ongoing with some of the foreign bands and the performers’ list will be announced in the next few weeks.

Prior to the music fest, she said there will be an MCMF challenge to create excitement among country music lovers state-wide.

“MCMF challenge is a country music band competition which we will be organising in Kuching, Sibu, Miri and Bintulu.

“The competition will start in November this year and will run for two months. Registration for the competition will begin in October and entry forms will be available in UCSI Communications website.”

In Kuching, she added, the competition will be held at Utopia while in Bintulu, it will be held at ParkCity Everly Hotel Bintulu while the venues for the competition in Sibu and Miri will be announced soon.
