Sandakan unveils its only international brand hotel

SANDAKAN: Ireka Corporation Berhad unveiled Sandakan’s only international brand hotel – the Four Points by Sheraton Sandakan (FPSS) on Wednesday.

FPSS is part of Sandakan Harbour Square, which is developed by ICSD Ventures Sdn Bhd (a subsidiary of Aseana Properties Limited) together with the Sandakan Municipal Council as its joint venture partner.

The integrated commercial development also clinched the much-coveted Asia Pacific Property Awards (Commercial Redevelopment category) in 2009.

Four Points by Sheraton Sandakan will bring with it tremendous impacts on the development of our local tourism industry. For the record, the hotel is housed and located in the tallest building in Sandakan, a first for Sabah,” Sandakan Municipal Council president, Datuk James Wong said during the soft launching of the hotel.

The Sandakan Municipal Council has strongly supported this redevelopment of the Central Business District since day one.

“Today all of us can witness the successful conclusion of this joint venture project by ICSD Ventures Sdn Bhd and the Sandakan Municipal Council,” he added.

“The Sandakan Harbour Square project demanded huge investments, sacrifices, cooperation from all quarters, and consistent hard work from both partners of this venture, without which the implementation of this redevelopment would not have been carried out smoothly and successfully,” Wong said.

Wong commended the spirit and determination of ICSD Ventures Sdn Bhd to complete this large development without let up which saw it putting in a lot of efforts in the project implementation.

“With the hotel open for business and the impending operation of Harbour Mall, the people of Sandakan will begin to have a new era of shopping experience and a changing new lifestyle in the years to come,” he said.

“We are thrilled to bring in the Four Points by Sheraton brand, for its presence will enhance Sandakan’s modernisation and tourist appeal in line with Sandakan harbour Square’s social rejuvenation objective,” Lai Voon Hon, president and CEO of Ireka Development Management Sdn Bhd and Aseana Properties Limited’s development manager for Sandakan Harbour Square, said.
